Thirty Something

Last year was my Champagne 30th (that was coined given Taiwo & I’s love for champagne) and in all honesty, I had mixed feelings. There are SO many misconceptions about the third decade of one’s existence, but when you fall short of your own standard as you turn that third corner, the pressure floods in and then THEN you have a real problem. Before we go on, let’s quickly examine that list of what (I thought) I ought to have done by last October:

  1. Established a career in Investment Banking- I was certainly on the right path… Ag. Head of Project Finance at the age of 29, caaman! I was doing okay and I had the right support. This was the ONLY thing I had on lock down though… keep reading…
  2. Bought a house- 7 months on and this remains on the to-do list
  3. Married a steady boyfriend whom I’d have dated for c.3 years- Update: It’s official, I’m single!
  4. Popped 2 babies at the minimum- After all, it’s harder to make babies with “fried eggs”. Besides, Then, I wanted 3! Today, I’d be content with 1!
  5. Visited at least 30 cities- I’ve lost count to be honest. I’ve probably done about 25, not quite 30 but I’m no longer counting.
  6. Bought an Investment bag- The Chanel 2.55 remains on my wish list. I’m open to donations… nothing is too small
  7. Learnt French- Travil en cours- yes, I googled that. Sue me!

What I quickly realized is that there’s nothing wrong with making plans. In fact, I encourage everyone to do it. Falling short of your own expectations happens. What’s then important is to take stock of where you are and work to move forward. Self-pity, insecurity that’s just pathetic. When you focus too much on what wasn’t, you’ll lose sight of your achievements.

To cut a long story (somewhat) short, I ended up having the time of my life celebrating my Champagne 30th. I spent the actual birthday on the plane from Paris back to Lagos. My flight got delayed so I didn’t actually arrive until 9pm.

C30

But I’d never felt so loved when I got home. There were about 30 people waiting to celebrate with me that Thursday evening. Amazing individuals…. Every single one of them! The following night, I went out clubbing and my awesome friends totally covered EVERYTHING! We got a table and partied till the am.

The icing on the cake was a trip to Malta with Taiwo (of course) and Wura. What a beautiful, island!

Today, I drew up a “Kehinde Four Point Zero” Bucket list. I’m not sharing that with you yet, but just know it’s a lot more fun and a lot less serious.

Before I leave you pondering on what made the Bucket list, I’ll drop some hints below in my update on what I’ve “achieved” on turning 30…

  1. Changed jobs- I’ve decided I want to be an O&G guru in the medium term. PE is still the ultimate GOAL along with (maybe) being an Editor-at-Large (I find that so fascinating)
  2. Started Yoga- My first class was last Saturday and it was AMAZING! Going back this weekend
  3. Started eating healthier- I’m not quite vegetarian YET, but I’m mindful of what goes in
  4. Got braces- The plan isN’T to totally close the gap, but I think my dentist has another agenda…. I’ll keep you updated
  5. Got a helix piercing. Then ditched the helix piercing. I got a keloid so had to take it out… the keloid is gone now so I’ll try again later this year and see how that pans out
  6. Got contacts- because I had to “babe up” even if it was only a nano notch
  7. Invested in the Stella McCartney Falabella- YAAASSSS loved this bag FOREVER and she will do until my 2.55 arrives
  8. I read a book! And now I’m reading ANOTHER book (Children of Blood & Bone)

Dare I say it, but 30 is looking pretty darn good on me despite my (self-) perceived short comings. The other day, a gentleman at Ikoyi club even thought I was 19!!! *blush* Could 30 be the new 20?

Ps: I won’t jinx things by saying “I’m Back!” but I’ll just leave that right here….

Pps: Super excited about the Lancome Teint Idole launch in Nigeria. Can’t wait t find my shade

PPPs: Kehinde Three Point Zero…. Kehinde FOUR Point Zero, that makes me giggle, I don’t know why

**Anniversary GIVEAWAY**

They say idle hands are the Devil’s workshop and so a year ago, when I was through with exams and seeking a fulfilling way to occupy my new found freedom, I started a Fashion Blog. To celebrate my blogs first anniversary, I have decided to hold my first GIVEAWAY.

Up for grabs is one item that summarize my fashion and encapsulate my style:

HOUSE 38 blouse.

This seemingly simple blouse materializes my personality from the sequin embellished collar to the unsuspecting drop hemline. The chiffon feel is best suited for the easy, breezy, laid-back days, while the red buttons add an understated pop. Available only in a British size 8/10 (I’m not too sure, I got rid of the tag), all you need to do is post a comment along with your name and email address. Feel free to enter as many times as you want. The deadline for entries is the 6th of June 2012, after which I will no longer accept entries. Unfortunately, I’m only able to ship within Lagos and to the UK.

*Necklace not included*

xXx

Ps: Don’t forget to leave your name and email address

PPs: The winner will be chosen using a random generator

PPPs: I slipped today at work and came crashing down flat on the tiled floors of the 17th floor. It was an ugly sight and hurt my tooshie 😦 Luckily, I had a ponytail to cushion my head 🙂

Party Rock!!!!

Last Night was mad fun! I had friends over to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely awesome! Initially, I was really worried that the torrential rain would deter my friends from making the effort, and even though it successfully discouraged some, the bulk of the people I’d invited made it and I was over the moon.

Below is my outfit post because I’ve decided not to veer from the focus of my blog (fashion, style and beauty) hope you like.

Blouse: TopShop

Boob tube: H&M

Bodycon: Warehouse

Powder: Mac NW 45

Blusher: Mac Desert Rose

Eyeliner: Lancôme

Nail polish: Nails Inc ‘The cocktail collection by Malibu’

Ps: My lens is a wide shot/angle lens so my pictures accommodate a lot. I’m planning on buying myself another lens for Christmas though so that should be exciting.

Pps: I hardly ever have my hair down, it gets in the way of my face and drives me mad. Lol

Ppps: I was barefoot half the night. Otherwise, I had on some lime green flipflops aka rubber slippers. Lol.

Ore In Birmingham

Yesterday was our beloved Bukky‘s birthday and to celebrate, we headed out for the best Thai food Birmingham has to offer.

Being the sweet sister that she is, the beautiful Ore came down to celebrate with the rest of us and I’m sure you’ll agree that she was looking stunning with her ruched up-do and effortless ensemble.

The Girl in The Blue Skirt

A couple of weeks ago, I was out shopping at Zara and fell in love with a midi, dodger blue pleated skirt. As it sat on the mannequin’s waist with the wind enabling the Marylin Monroe effect it became clear to me. I had to have it. I picked the smallest size I could find and headed straight for the dressing room, but to my detriment even that was too big for my bony waist.

A couple of weeks on and my sister-Gbonju (remember the one from 2 posts ago?)- is sporting the skirt of my pleated fantasy with a plain black tee, a pair of coral KG’s and a DP bag. You have to admit, she’s quite the hottie.

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining

Yesterday was my mum’s birthday and to mark the big one, we headed to London to celebrate. I’d initially planned to don this season’s colour blocks- tangerine orange and emerald green to be specific- however, upon arrival at Zara, they were all out of the emerald green blazer of my rainbow fantasy and I was subjected to the thing I hate the most- compromise.

Oh well, you know what they say, “every cloud has a silver lining” and indeed my cloud was no different. As I drooled over bags in Selfridges, I was stopped by their fashion bloggers who were loving my outfit. A couple of pictures and a few impromptu poses later, I was off again and my pictures should be on the Selfridges blog soon (I’ll post the link as soon as they’re uploaded). Fingers crossed they’ll be decent photos and not the usual shrek-like pictures I’m haunted by.

How sexy does Gbonju look? She normally hates her photo’s but I think this one’s a hit so here we are 🙂
