Jacquemus

[Un]Popular Opinion: cliché as it may sound, I think Pablo Picasso is a friggn LEGEND! And while we’re at it…. Cubism is in fact my favourite Art Movement.

———

Jacquemus is a young, talented, French, modern designer. His take on fashion is almost architectural in execution. He deconstructs objects, rebuilding sculpted masterpieces.

Jacquemus footwear was launched two years ago. His creative ingenuity in my opinion, borders on modern day Cubism. He leverages basic shapes and cleverly balances them to curate whimsical shoe perfection.

You see, the thing I love about Cubism is its ability to produce a conceptual image as opposed to the perceptual form. After all, I consider vision to be reassembled shapes built up to create depth and manipulated in form.

Jacquemus is only 29 and already pushing fashion boundaries. It’s a shame he’s put a stop to his quirky shoes. Regardless, I’m curious as to what he will unfold as he continues to rebuild, reinvent and rediscover.

Ps: Take my posts as they come and don’t question the [ir]regularity. After all, I’d like to think of myself as a creative 🙃

PPs: I’ve had my Nikon D3100 for 8years and only just decided to properly learn photography. So far, so fun!

PPPs: I made dumplings from SCRATCH yesterday. The result…? Meat pies! LOL

“Florals… For Spring..? Groundbreaking”

I first set my eyes on Carolina Herrera’s SS15 look on Instagram and I sincerely thought it was breathtaking.

I’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada too many times to know that florals for spring is so cliché! I mean, it requires little to no mental activity and so it’s generally a trend that should be avoided (in my opinion). But in her SS15 collection, Carolina Herrera has successfully juxtaposed a supposedly trite floral print on a futuristic and fresh canvas.

The collection seems to be a modern day musing of the renowned Georgia O’keeffe depicting feminism in all her glory as the crisp look remains somewhat bridal.

I know there’s a lot more to see from this years New York Fashion Week but I can’t help but get ahead of myself and deem CH’s collection my favourite look of the season.

Hope you like as much as I do……

Isn’t this mosaic look just divine???

MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week II

I love Grey. All three designers stole my heart last year at this very event. The perfection of their woven pieces was a clear winner encompassing clean structures and femininity. This year however, I must say I was a little let down. Individually, each piece was spectacular as usual, but as a collection I found it less cohesive. I’m no designer and neither am I a stylist so perhaps I’m way out of my bounds, but I felt that although the mens collection was stronger, the ladies collection just needed a bit more of a link, be it with the sheer fabrics, with the meticulous cuts or even with the colour scheme. Below are pictures from their S/S 2013 collection followed by more pictures backstage.

Bridget Awosika. Flawless pieces as usual.

Ps: Still got even more pictures. Not sure if I can be bothered to upload them now though.

MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2012

MTN Lagos Fashion and Design week revisited Eko Hotel this year and I was pleasantly surprised to be invited back. I assumed the same responsibility I held last year (read here) which as you know gives me a chance to get all the backstage action notwithstanding, I have the opportunity to watch the final pieces on the runway.

This year, I was blessed to have a guy called Brian offer to assist me in taking pictures and upon receiving my camera back at the end of the night I was astonished by the impressive job he’d done. Below are pictures from Mi-Le one of my favourite young designers. Her collection comprised of pastel colours and flirty flows, very much to my delight. Below are also some pictures from backstage. Hope you like….

Hula Hoop

I spent my Friday on a range of social media sites. It began with Instagram where I discovered old friends with new experiences; after which I moved on to Pinterest my “go-to” place for DIY and crafts. Finally, I hit the online magazines and blogs in search of what I will refer to as “pure fashion”.

Naturally, Vogue was the number one destination encapsulating “pure fashion” and the Chanel Hula Hoop bag enveloped me in its creative circus.

Has there ever been a bag less practical? Is this the extraordinaire that is “fashion”? More importantly, would you carry this beach bag or maybe a smaller version?

Arise

Last week Saturday brought a fresh bout of depression on my weekend. I’d mapped out a two-day strategy involving taking charge of the fashion empire and maybe even conquering the world, yet somehow, favour appeared to have ditched my right hand side and friendship no longer felt like a cushion.

Arise Fashion week was in Lagos and I missed the entirety of its Saturday show thanks to a few hiccups coupled with the manic traffic that constantly engulfs Lagos.

Sunday night had to be different! I attended the finale ALONE and encapsulated each awaking moment in the joy of my own company. In all honesty, the Sunday night show fell short of my tall expectations with the Okunoren twins being my personal highlight. However, my judgement might have been slightly flawed seeing as I missed the beginning and missed out on the end too.

Nonetheless, as my Dad’s driver pulled up outside the front door with me in the passenger’s seat, a glimmer of satisfaction washed over my face. I was pleased just to have made it to the show. I always like to form my own opinion on certain situations.

Below are pictures of what I wore. Pictures of the show coming soon…..

Blazer: Zara

Blouse: H&M

Skirt: House 38

Diving In

Undoubtedly, every summer demands a new bikini and this year I’ve been obsessing over two very unique collections.

Jason Wu’s Resort 2012 collection reveals his dive into the deep end with his neon-coloured debut pieces. The dark outlines exaggerate feminine silhouettes with the highlighted hues emphasising a pop! Love, love love these pieces.

My second and favourite swimwear obsession has got to be Mara Hoffman’s Resort Swim 2011 Runway. These beautiful indigenous prints take us on an ethical journey of bohemian creativity, they’re amazing. Here are my favourites of the lot. Hope you’re loving these as much as I am…. they’re genius!
